About FLOUNDER

**TALK TO SILVIA ABOUT MEDICAL BEFORE REFERRING** IN LAUREL, MD. DAWN IS THE CONTACT. Mar 19, 2026: Flounder is a gentle, affectionate puppy who found himself in the shelter after being surrendered with his littermates. It didn’t take long for staff to notice something was off with his front right leg, and X‑rays revealed a break at the joint. Lab Rescue stepped in to give him the care he deserves. After consulting with a couple of orthopedic surgeons, the recommendation is to wait until Flounder is older and his growth plates have closed before performing corrective surgery. Until then, he’s cleared to enjoy life as a puppy — just without overdoing it. Flounder can romp around the yard and explore, but he shouldn’t be encouraged to fetch or roughhouse with other dogs. Despite his limitations, he’s thriving. He’s learning to settle outside of his crate, practicing his basic commands, and he already sits politely and takes treats with the gentlest little mouth. This boy’s spirit is as bright as his future. With a bit of patience and a lot of love, Flounder is well on his way to becoming someone’s perfect companion. Flounder is a 3-month-old black neutered male. He was born on 12/9/25. He is current on vaccines. He needs his front legs to be x-rayed every month until he is 8 months old. He weighs 30 pounds. READ MEDICAL TAB. Puppy Adoption Procedures - Please send your approved puppy applications to our Puppy Coordinator-- Dawn (mailto:dpwlabrescue@gmail.com). - Please note where they are willing to travel to for a puppy (Northern VA, MD, Tidewater, or Richmond). - Please also note if they have a color and sex preference. - Puppy Coordinators will keep a list of approved apps and will contact them when we have puppies that they might be interested in. - AC's will still need to go over the specifics with your apps about our puppy process. Please remind your apps that they need to respond promptly if they are interested in a puppy. - If your apps will be meeting a puppy we will let you know when they have an appointment. - If your apps are not available to meet the puppy we will still keep them on the puppy list. - If your apps are not interested in a puppy anymore please let us know so we can remove them from the list. Reminders: Raising a puppy can be very rewarding but also very demanding pursuit. Puppy adopters need to ensure that the puppy: - Has a potty/social interaction break every three or four hours until 6 months old to ensure house training success. - Gets plenty of daily play time and walks. - Has regular interaction with kids, adults and other dogs to ensure positive socialization. - We will not place two pups from the same litter together. - Puppy adoption fee is $400. - A contract with a training addendum will be completed before a puppy heads home. - Gets the vaccinations in accordance with the Lab Rescue Puppy Protocol and other care as recommended by their vet. - Goes to a formal training program when the puppy is six months old in addition to in-home training efforts.
